Ezzam Rahman
Ezzam Rahman (b.1981) is a multi-disciplinary installation and performance artist based in Singapore. He graduated with a Masters in Arts, Fine Arts from Goldsmiths University of London in 2017, Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Fine Arts from the University of Huddersfield in 2010 and was formally trained as a sculptor from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts in 2003.
Ezzam has participated, initiated, organized and co-curated numerous local and international group exhibitions, events and festivals. He has presented his works in America, Australia, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, South Korea, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and U.K.

Ezzam is known for his interest in the body and his use of common, easily accessible and unconventional materials to produce works. Through his work, Ezzam features narratives that challenges and expands the notions of identity politics, the inherent paradoxes of presence and marginality. Most of his works are time-based ephemera that aim to pique the viewer’s thoughts on the topic of impermanence, trace and abjection.
Ezzam was awarded a joint winner of the Grand Prize for the President's Young Talents 2015 and the People's Choice Award by the Singapore Art Museum. In 2016, Ezzam was awarded the Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award by Yayasan Mendaki and the prestigious Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council, Singapore. In 2017, he was one of the participating artists that presented in Singapore Inside Out in Sydney, Australia organized by the Singapore Tourism Board. In 2018, Ezzam was invited by Frieze Art Fair in London, to be part of Frieze Symposium in a panel discussion on, A Brief History of Performance in South East Asia.
The residency: What Does a Blade of Grass Sound Like?

In this residency, Ezzam will be extending his interest in video making. He will be working with a collection of nature related videos that he recorded in his recent trip to Poland and will be working and collaborating together with Isabelle Desjeux to create a series of sound sculptures using up-cycled found ready made and objects as sound folly sculptures to accompany a video presentation. This residency is an opportunity for Ezzam to reflect back on his practice and the relationship between human and nature.
